Invisalign® Clear Aligners Achieving straighter teeth and a healthier, more beautiful smile has long been done using braces. Despite the effects that traditional braces have, not everyone is comfortable with the idea of wearing metal on their teeth 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until orthodontic treatment is complete. Today, Summit Dental Care offers a much more discreet cosmetic treatment using Invisalign®. How Is Invisalign Different Than Braces? Invisalign® is a different way to straighten your teeth. This treatment uses clear aligners rather than brackets and wires. The aligners are made using Invisalign®’s SmartTrack® material, which is a patented thermoplastic that contains no BPA, no BPS, and no latex. The aligners are completely clear, meaning that other people will hardly notice them, and they are also removable. Getting Your Invisalign Aligners Your Invisalign® aligners are custom created to help you achieve your ideal smile. To create them, we take digital impressions of your mouth. Our Invisalign® providers are then able to create a series of aligners just for you. Additionally, we can use the digital impressions to see your mouth every step of the way, including what your smile will look like when your treatment is complete. Frequently Asked Questions What Happens During Invisalign® Treatment? We provide you with several sets of aligners all at once. Your aligners are meant to be worn for just two weeks at a time, and then you switch to the next set. While your aligners are removable, you should still keep them in for a majority of the time. It is recommended that the aligners only be taken out when you eat something or when you brush and floss your teeth. Your aligners should also be regularly cleaned as well. They should, at the very least, be rinsed off after eating. If possible, brush them gently. They should be soaked for about 15 minutes in denture cleaner or Invisalign®’s cleaning crystals once a day to sanitize them. You can also clean them with an antibacterial soap. Even though you do not have anything fixed to your teeth, and do not need to have wires adjusted, you will still need regular orthodontic appointments. These appointments are typically every 6 weeks, and they allow our Invisalign® dentists to monitor your progress as well as supply you with more aligners as needed. Invisalign® treatment times are generally shorter than treatment with traditional braces. Once treatment is over, you will receive a retainer, which will help you to maintain your new smile by preventing your teeth from shifting back out of place. It is also important to schedule dental cleanings and dental exams in order to maintain your brand new smile. Can Invisalign® Fix All Orthodontic Issues? Invisalign can treat a lot of orthodontic issues. Using Invisalign®, we can treat gapped teeth, overcrowding, overbites, and underbites. However, there are some issues that cannot be corrected with Invisalign® because it does not offer control for certain types of tooth movements. Invisalign® cannot correct severely rotated teeth, severely tipped teeth, large gaps, and other significant alignment issues. With Invisalign®, you can achieve a healthy, gorgeous smile without anyone being any the wiser.
